    Blue/Orange screen errors

    Hey everyone,

So a month ago I bought my first PC and since day 1 I have been getting a bunch of random BSOD errors (and some orange SODs as well). I am using an ASUS Zenbook UX303UB, and these are some of the errors I've gotten:

    MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (WdFilter.sys)
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
BAD_POOL_HEADER ---- (this was orange SOD)
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION ---- (has happened in blue and also orange)
    DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER

I've run the windows memory diagnostic and the SFC scans both of which showed no problems. I just now ran the driver verifier and the PC immediately crashed with DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION upon restart and kept failing. The computer ran a diagnostic on itself, said windows 10 could not be run and the computer went back to a restore point.

Here is the file as requested in the posting guidelines. The bottom minidump file should be the one caused by the driver verifier
    Attachment 82877

Many thanks to whoever can help me figure this out!

    Hi copelaa,

    Welcome to the 10forums :)

I would like to give my apology, I have to leave within a few minutes + have to eat before I leave so this will be a short version of my analysis.

Please update all drivers that ASUS provides of Intel, driver verifier caught a driver from Intel which is pretty much unknown except that it is from Intel. Besides of this unknown driver from Intel the Intel network driver has caused a different crash.

Hey axe0, thanks for the response!

Following your advice I went to make sure all my intel-manufactured drivers were updated. Is the correct way to do this simply to go to "Device Manager" and go through each driver one by one and check for an update using the built in "Update Driver Software" button? Doing this, it managed to find and install updates for the drivers (all under "System Devices" labeled:

    Intel(R) 100 Series Chipset Family PMC-9D21
    Intel(R) 100 Series Chipset Family SMBUS-9D23
    Intel(R) 100 Series Chipset Family Thermal subsystem-9D31
    Asus Wireless Radio Control

There is no driver on this list simply labeled "Intel network driver" and none of the drivers under the network tab required updates according to this tool, but could this still be what you meant?

Also, im not sure what you mean about running mixed memory and removing either of the memory sticks. The only thing I have plugged into my computer is the power cord and a small USB thingy for my wireless mouse. I know internally the memory is 4GB On Board with 8GB added (according to ASUS website-Memory: DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, OnBoard Memory 4 GB , DIMM Up to 12 G).
Was I just unlucky and was given a laptop with an internal memory problem out of the box?

On a side note, I have noticed that when I get BSODs, it's almost always when i'm using the laptop on a non-solid surface (ie my bed) where sometimes I have the computer resting on its front edge while lying down or just in general it's not operating from a flat surface (like it is when im using it on my desk). This may just be coincidence, but is it possible something isn't bolted down properly on the inside causing some of these issues?

    HI copelaa,

The best way to update drivers from laptops is by going to the official support page of the manufacturer and download the drivers from there.
For you the official support page ASUS ZenBook UX303UB | Notebooks | ASUS USA

Mixed memory is memory of different makes/models, this often results in problems because there are changes in the way to do their job. To prevent the problems you need a memory kit, a memory kit is multiple memory sticks of the same make & models that have been tested and proven to work together properly.
Even if the make & model of the memory is the same, but either of the sticks are added it can be seen as mixed memory because the memory isn't tested and not proven to work together.

This may just be coincidence, but is it possible something isn't bolted down properly on the inside causing some of these issues?
Good question, unfortunately I cannot give a proper answer because I cannot look inside your laptop to see if any problem may be present. It does sound like there is something not properly connected or something as you think.

Hey axe0, thanks again for the response!

Ill try through that website for the drivers and see if there are any drivers that need updating that windows isnt picking up on automatically. A quick question on the mixed memory though. I havent made any modifications to my computer since i bought it. I haven't installed any memory sticks, so if there is a memory problem, it's on the inside and it was there when i bought my computer?

So in this situation is my next step probably to send the computer back to ASUS for repairs and hope they can fix it? If so I guess i'll mark this as solved.

They at least need to give you a memory kit that is known to work proper
