BSOD after about 15min for about 4-5 restarts

    Hey everyone,

So for the past week i've been getting either the whea_uncorrectable_error or IRQL_not_less_or_equal BSOD... I browsed the forums and did most of the suggestions (mainly updates all my drivers and ran the stress tests, minus the ram).
Updating my drivers seemed to have fixed it for 2 days and this morning i kept getting the errors again.

A little info, I seem to be getting the errors on startup only. About 15min after start up (give or take) I will get a bsod. This will happen about 3-4 times on average and then the computer is fine for the rest of the day... When the restarts happen, i'm either playing some WoW or just on the internet via chrome. I have yet to be able to reproduce the error identically everytime and I will sometimes get the bsod just doing nothing after bootup...

I ran prime95 for 1hour with 0 errors or warning, and ran furmark for 30min with no issues either, I also did a chkdsk and that also gave me no errors for my hdd's.

I'm at a loss atm, not exactly sure what else to check aside from running mem test tonight. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Hi NickDucharme,

    Welcome to the 10forums.

In your event logs there are many events about an error detected on Harddisk4 DR4, since you have multiple storage devices & I'm not sure how Windows looks at it to specify which of them is causing this problem I suggest that you test your HDD & SSDs and update the firmware of the SSDs.

    Diagnostics Test

     HDD TEST

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
    Run following tests
    1. Short Drive Self Test
    2. Short generic
    3. Long generic

If the short generic fails, no need for the long generic.
    Note   Note
Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Post screenshots/photos of the test results

    Run HDTune to
    • scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
    • check the health,
    • benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
Let me know what the results are
    • of the error scan,
    • make a screenshot of the health of every hard drive and post the screenshots,
    • post screenshots with the benchmark of the
      • transfer rate,
      • access time,
      • burst rate,
      • cpu usage.

Best is to make screenshots/photos of these test results too.

    Code:

      Level: Warning
      Opcode: N/A
      Keyword: Classic

      Description:

Thank you, I will do the tests as soon as my mem test finishes. I ran some chkdsk before since I am using 2 ssd's and 1 hdd and those came back with no errors. Anything specific I should run for the ssd's aside from chkdsk? Also could it be a usb thats generally always plugged in that could be the cause? since to me that would be the 4th drive

You can run HDTune for both the HDD, SSD, SSHD or any other kind of storage drive you can think of (not sure about pluggable storage devices with HDTune though, except if they are extern hard drives) :)

Also could it be a usb thats generally always plugged in that could be the cause? since to me that would be the 4th drive
    That is certainly possible yes.

So I completed my mem test, 8 parses with 0 errors. Also completed all the scans with HD Tune, the screenshots are in the compressed file attached.

I tried to run a scan on my usb just for reference, it ran the error scan with 0 errors but after the benchmark it just crashed the benchmark and gave 100% errors after that (screenshot included for the errors)

When it comes to upgrading firmware for the hdd's, i'm not exactly sure what the best method is. I did check with the samsung magician software for firmware updates and the firmware for that hdd is up to date.

Install Crucial Storage Executive Client and check the Crucial SSD for firmware updates.

Awsome thank you so much, crucial ssd was 2 firmware updates behind so I updated that. Only thing left is the Wester Digital. I found this so far to check its firmware WD Product Update. It says to remove all usb's and rescan but when i do it just doesnt rescan so i'm wondering if only the WD drive has to be connected?

My opinion is that HDDs don't really need firmware updating, I've never done any HDD firmware update (neither a SSD firmware update) and my hard drive is fine as it is.

Just let it be for what it is and let me know if another BSOD occurs :)

Quick update, so far i did not get a BSOD where i normally would so everything seems good. I will keep this open for a few days to make sure its not just a fluke
