Open taskmanager and click on disk usage to monitor the disk usage to see if it is correct what you see, heavy usage of the disk.

    Task manager

yes I thought of that, didn't seem to be anything unusual - Skype was using a lot. But this morning I have Skype running and the HD seems normal - fingers crossed!

    Thanks - Sally

Just to be sure the hard drive is fine, please try running below tests and let me know what the results are :)

    Diagnostics Test

     HDD TEST

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
    Run following tests
    1. Short Drive Self Test
    2. Short generic
    3. Long generic

If the short generic fails, no need for the long generic.
    Note   Note
Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

    Run HDTune to
    • scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
    • check the health,
    • benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
Let me know what the results are
    • of the error scan,
    • make a screenshot of the health of every hard drive and post the screenshots,
    • post screenshots with the benchmark of the
      • transfer rate,
      • access time,
      • burst rate,
      • cpu usage.

    HArd drive

I have run the Seatools scan on the hard drive, and there are no problems. I actually don't think there is a problem with my hard drive, as reading online on the Sony website, a number of people of had this same problem when they disable the AMD driver-the fan running loud and continuously. Many people are using leshcatlabs drivers to run the Intel and AMD graphics chips, so I may try that. Have you had any experience with using those drivers? leshcatlabs.net - Your community for modded AMD Catalyst and Intel Graphics drivers. Thanks for all your help-Sally

Please post the results I requested.

Have you had any experience with using those drivers?
No, I am only using the drivers Dell (my laptop manufacturer) provides me because they work the best for me.

    No more BSODs!

Hello - since I've installed the leshcatlab drivers, I have had no more BSODs or freezes, and the fan seems to be working properly, and the hard drive is not running all the time, so that really does seem to have solved the problem. It's been quite a few days now, with everything working fine. Thank you so much for letting me know that it was the drivers for the dual graphics cards that were the problem. I really appreciate your help.

    Thanks so much-Sally
