    Frequent BSOD THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

More details in the zip, but here's the summary of the situation. I bought this Asus TUF FX505DT gaming laptop about 2 weeks ago and ever since then I experienced frequent BSOD mainly THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER. My previous laptop intel + nvidia pair never had BSOD like this. The first thing I did after purchasing it was updating every driver to the latest version, including the AMD chipset and graphics one.

Browsing in AMD subreddit, I also notice numerous users with every kind of rig face issues by problematic drivers. So I assume it's a common problem with AMD brand. Can you help me pinpoint which part cause conflict or is buggy? Kinda worry if the problem is the hardware or just the driver. So I can at least be sure what causes the problem. Thanks a lot!

    I'm using Win10 1903 build 18362.535
    AMD Ryzen 7 3750H
    Nvidia GTX 1650
    8GB RAM DDR4-2400

All dumps shows a problem with atikmpag.sys.

    Get from OEM for laptops
Get the latest driver for your AMD Radeon(TM) RX Vega 10 Graphics here: AMD Radeon Software
Completely uninstall the current driver using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from WagnardMobile here: Official Download Here. Do this in Safe Mode.

Then do a custom install of only the Display driver.

See if that gets rid of the problem.

Yeah, a bummer that AMD based laptop often have problems like this. If you recently installed the optional 1909 update, you can uninstall it and revert to 1903. It's more stable in 1903 for my case.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply Ztrucker! Prior to reading this I reverted back to Win10 1903 from 1909, paranoid if the update itself caused the instability. I will let the system run for itself for a while, if the BSOD persists, I will try as you suggested. I heard about DDU before and I have to be sure not to accidentally uninstall chipset driver along with the graphics driver.

    UPDATE

BSOD again today thread_stuck_in_device_driver and did what suggested by only installing the graphics driver without the radeon software. Hopefully this solves the problem. Will update in 48 hours max

    Working solution

I reverted to AMD Adrenalin 2019 version 19.9.2. I used DDU to cleanly remove previous driver then installed only the graphics driver without radeon software. So far until now no atikmdag.sys bsod.

Hopefully for anyone having ASUS TUF FX505DT or similar laptop can use this solution for now. Newer AMD driver screws a lot of things, so better stick to the older version. Find a way to prevent windows update driver because even that driver is problematic.

Sorry, I've been out for a week. My wife was in the hospital with pneumonia so I've not has any time for the computer.

Whenever you get a new BSOD, please run the V2 log collector and post the zip here or on a file sharing sit.
