    Win 10 won't start 0x000021a

    Morning Folks

First time looking for help here but I didn't find anything when searching.

My PC was upgraded to Windows 10 shortly after launch and has been working flawlessly, until today.

I rebooted my machine after loosing internet connection, it did ask if I wanted to force GDI+ to close. I said yes which looking back was probably a mistake.

So the machine restarted but gets an error prior to getting to the login screen. Eventually I get a screen showing error 0x000021a which then reboots, analyses, diagnoses and then I get to go into advanced repair.
I've 4 restore points which all fail at the same point. I even tried the reset this machine option which also fails.

I can get to the command prompt but I don't know where to start trying to fix this. Safe Mode won't start either.

Any help you can give will be appreciated.

    Please do the following:

    • Open an admin command prompt
    • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
    • When it finished reboot your system
    • Open again an admin command prompt
    • Enter sfc/scannow again

If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation", please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

    Diagnostics Test

     HDD TEST

    Run chkdsk http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...isk-check.html

ok ran the command, it didn't work. Got a message "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart and run sfc again"

I can't access any non local drives to retrieve the cbs.log
Is there anything in particular you are looking for from it ?

You can try it, but eventually the system will lock itself to prevent data loss if the problem occurs too much.

I am looking for corruption, missing files or other problems.

The 0x21a could indicate problems with your system files.

well I tried various things on this, one suggestion I found was to run chkdsk /f/r/x on it, and that did identify some problems on the SSD. I downloaded an installation ISO of win 10 and tried to see if that would help repair the machine but. Tried reset with keeping my files and without keeping the files both failed.

Finally just went with entirely fresh installation, which has now worked. Thanks for your suggestions Axe0
