No. I found nothing else that will work if the right drivers are not available. I have a Laptop with Optimus Technology and did the same as you did. I set the Nvidia card as Primary and disabled the on board graphics.
I've set this as solved, but it seems that it IS the secondary monitor. Not sure why. My Nvidia gpu froze the pc just a few minutes ago (or that's what I believe it to have been, as that's my default enabled driver. There was no BSOD either!)
The only reason, I would think, is if you are asking more of the GPU than it is capable of. I don't believe that is your problem. Your GPU should be more than capable to run 2 monitors easily..
It just also froze the PC while simply browsing Youtube. Something's not right, so I'm running an Avast scan and Malwarebytes scan as of right now. Let me know of anything else I should be doing.
