BSOD - when trying to resume from sleep mode - CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

While running a fresh install of Windows 10, when the computer tries to resume from sleep mode, it always crashes and the BSOD says "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you." This was never an issue in Windows 7.

See the attached system information file: Attachment 33977

Any help in preventing this crash is appreciated!

    Hi hsikkema,

    Welcome to the 10forums.

There are some issues with HP laptops and windows 10.
You'll probably have to disable sleep in the shutdown settings, please try following:

    • Right click battery icon in the lower right corner.
    • Select power options.
    • Left click on "Choose What The Power Button Does"
    • left click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
    • Scroll to the bottom and under "Shutdown Settings"
    • UNCHECK the "Sleep" box
    • click the "Save changes" button

I was afraid of that - not being able to use SLEEP nor HIBERNATE anymore. Are you sure there are no other solutions at this point?

With "a fresh install" you mean a clean install I assume?
If this is the case, then it is waiting for windows to fix this problem, they are aware of this problem.

axe0, do you happen to have a link where MS and/or HP confirms that? I'd just like to follow it as well.

    Hi rseiler,

You just need to search for it on the forums of Microsoft, there are plenty of them with these problems.
Microsoft will push windows updates to fix the problems whenever they think the updates are ready.

Ofcourse, there are other solutions that have to do with drivers for hardware, problems with 3rd party AV programs etc. but that is only the case when you have problems with devices and/or 3rd party AV programs installed. 3rd party AV programs are for a lot of people not yet stable enough, that is why it is recommended for now to remove them and temporarily use the built-in features.

Yes, I found the general reports, but it's very rare when MS owns up to a problem. That's OK, I just thought you might have seen something in particular.

I'm sorry, but I don't have much time anymore to search for some links since school is about to begin.
I'm sure you could find some threads when searching through the forum of Microsoft.

If you have another bluescreen, please use the tool again and upload the zip file, I'll gladly help you.

Please understand, there are lots of people that needs help with their bluescreens and I prefer to spend my time to help them then searching for those links, also I lost the links since I forgot to save them in a file and cleaned the history
