Thank you for this post but windows is now working for me. I'm guessing the bootrec steps fixed it. Thank you very much reddwarf4ever. You have helped me immensely.

It was a mixture of experience and ( hate to say it ) but a bit of googling...( no doubt googling will end up in the Oxford dictionary...LOL......computers constantly present us mere mortals with seemingly impossible problems, but we win in the end.....just shows who's got the real very glad I could help....made me feel good to.....take care...PS if you can get hold of a 'copy' of Acronis true image, it is an amazing program to back up your entire HDD, programs and everything, even has a verify option...I use it to make an ' image' of my various pc's and laptop.......can you tick the thumbs up to give me some reputation if you are happy with my help

    Windows 10

Hi, I have had the problem of being stuck on a blue screen twice, I have windows 10 on an ASUS X550C laptop. I resolved the problem by shutting the pc down with the power button, removing the battery pack and restarting. On both occasions the pc then undertakes a software update and then it runs as normal.
