Hi there. Interesting updated facts. This is similar to the sleep problem there is/was in 8.1 in that there were various scenarios. What worked for some did not work for others. Not sure if that issue ever got resolved for some. An update issued addressing that issue resolved it for most, but not others. In this case which doesn't relate to others' systems, David's works since changing AV and firewall. Mine works fine except my live tile doesn't. This is what I mean by different scenarios. Hard to find a common denominator. Different OEMs, AVs, MS vs local accounts, etc.

With what Paul states in that it works for awhile then ceases, it may be a service or even 2 or more that stop running after a time.

I'm in my 8.1 partition ATM. Just sent my self a test email via my Lumia. 8.1 responds almost immediately with notification and live tile until the Mail app is opened. My sole reasoning there is to make sure it's not MS servers causing any delay issues or that 8.1 has any issues at all. At least on my machine.

Another thing that came into mind is that they conjoined the Mail and Calendar apps technically calling it the "Communications" app. Does your Calendar apps work ok? Notifications and tile? There's no problem on my end.

I'm thinking they will conjoin the People app with them in the future. That app sure looks rinky dink to the one in 8.1. That's neither here nor there. Just my thoughts.

If this be anyone's main system and you're not comfortable with the app as broken, you may want to look for one that does work. If it isn't your main system such as mine and you're remaining an Insider, then I should think to stick with it so to send data back to MS for analysis.

    Good luck to all.

    I'm thinking this is related
My calendar App is working fine. My People app is still connected to my Mail App, I just added a new contact to People and just type 1 or 2 letters when sending an email. A drop down list appears and I click on one or another choice.

I contacted the only Microsoft MVP I have worked with asking him if Microsoft knows about this problem. I included a link to this thread.

In switching over to my 10 Pro partition I opened up my People app. I may have spoken too soon with my earlier critique on it. It seems they surely simplified it. Not really sure what to think at this point.

So as not to get into a long conversation so to detour your/this thread on the apps so far as conjoined vs working in conjunction, we'll save that for another time or thread if you'd like.

    Very good, David. Great idea!

here's something I noticed, which to me looks like something is messed up somewhere, whether related or not I don't know
this is if you have multiple accounts set up

open mail app and display one of you mail boxes (example I view my outlook email)
    close mail down
send an email to one of your other accounts, eg I send it to my gmail
notification arrives for this email, I click it and my outlook mail box opens, I am unable to enter the gmail mail boxes
close mail and re open it and all works fine

while I was testing the above, notifications worked fine, later tonight they will stop again though

You may be on to something, Paul. I have one Live email account solely and mine works all the way around including the live tile.

Who here also has multiple accounts?

I have two Outlook and one Comcast accounts. Strange thing I never got Paul's Post, it did not arrive in my mail app. I got two in a row from you. There are still problems even when I think it is fixed.

And your second email was 35 minutes late.

I opened a browser and checked my Outlook mail, nothing there from Paul, two in a row from HippsieGypsie. Maybe that one is not the Mail App.

Nope, KB3081424 installed, notifications still does not work. Nothing has changed.

Anyway, Here is an interesting news:

someone from MS was on reddit and said the fix for the mail app would come as an app update and not a system update. She claimed they were testing the fix already.

Could be servers, David. I noticed if I send an email to myself on my Lumia, it comes back to the phone 2 seconds after I press the send button. That's on WiFi. I have configured not to download when on cell network as with all my apps, for I'm on limited data plan. It takes about 5 seconds when I'm on my 8.1 OS. That's with Mail app not open and it's Ethernet hardwired to my Comcast router.

Just tried it on my 10 OS. Got it on my phone, but not in my 10, however, I just woke my PC up 15 minutes ago when returning home. I noticed my live tile is dead from the previous mails I received, but never opened the app to receive. When I rebooted I did receive it with notification and live tile also, but it took about 15 minutes after reboot. I didn't open the app and noticed that my live tile goes dead. Not sure how long afterwards, though.

According to the tidbit of news it looks as though MS is aware of all this and is addressing the issue. I guess we'll have to live with it for awhile.

I keep trying different things. I removed all extra email accounts, only the "User Account" outlook email remains. It does not seem I can remove that one. Anyway I did a reset and 15 minutes later I got the first notification in several hours. There were several emails that arrived without notifications.

The live tile went blank after approx. 15 minutes without opening my mail app. I really think that is the default setting.

I have been reviewing mail app posts on the Microsoft forum. The multiple email accounts are a major suspect in our problems.

I thought someone else might want to try having only one email account and see what happens.

I can open my secondary email accounts with a browser and really they are not that important.

My Microsoft MVP said he is not currently working on Windows 10 issues and will try to pass my info on.
(Do not know if that is good or bad. but it doesn't sound promising).

I have a link to my latest Microsoft forum thread. I thought some of you might want to look at it.
