I don't use MS mail program to check my mail, cause I don't like it. But that's just me, lots of folks use it with no problem. I have Mail turned off. I use a freeware program called Howard Mail notifier .

So was Mail removed from "Show notification from these apps"? I have it enabled in Mail settings. Or is it just my PC?
You should have it BOTH places. Go to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > NOTIFICATIONS & ACTIONS then scroll to the bottom right.

Also check DEFAULT APPS on the left in your image. The Mail App should be there.

I think the first thing is run Command Prompt SFC /SCANNOW

To check for corrupt files, have you done that before hottripper?

PS My Action Center, Banners, Sounds and Live Tile are still dead.
