Mail app live tile does not show anything

For the first time ever, since my main OS is Win 7, I tried to use the Mail app. So, I have connected my MS account, the one I use for Win 10, to the Mail application, and have set it to be my Default Mail app.

The live tile on my Start Up looks like this (and it does not change) :

Mail app live tile does not show anything-1.png

Whenever I receive a new e-mail I get a notification in the Action Center, since this is the way I've set it, I open the Mail app and read the e-mail. The live tile does not show anything though.

    - Is this the way it is supposed to work? First time ever I use it, so I don't know. Is the live tile supposed to show something or not?

I have turned "Live Tile" on and off several times, I have signed out and back in and rebooted, as well.

    Thank you.

Well, immediately right after I have reported it as a bug it started to work! :)

I am going to check it out for 24 hours and then - I hope - I will mark this thread as solved. :)

Just passing by to report : my feeling is that the Mail app sometimes it works, other times it does not, or at least not in the way it's supposed to. Dunno yet...

    One question, please :

    - How often does the Mail app update (synchronizes) and from where can I set this? Can I set this?

In Outlook 2013 or 2016, my default E-mail client since forever, as soon as a new e-mail arrives, I get it! But when I open the Mail application I see at the bottom something like "Last updated 19 minutes ago" (!) or "Last updated 25 minutes ago" (!!).....

    Seriously?!

Is there a setting to make it update more often?

Thank you and I hope somebody will reply :)

It updates as soon as a new mail arrives (IMAP) or MS Account, POP will be at a set interval as normal
The last updated time will be the last time a new email came in

some screenshots here of the settings to alter frequency of updating
how often does the mail app check for new messages?

Thank you very much for this! :)

Both of the two accounts I keep in the Mail app where set to "based on your usage". Now I've set them to "as items arrive" and I believe everything will be fine! By the way, these two e-mail accounts in the Mail app are an outlook account and a WindowsLive account. What is the difference between them? :)

I have to say that after using the Mail app, for the first time ever, for a couple of days I start to really appreciate its functionality! So far, on Windows 7 all these years but also on Windows 10 'till recently, I was using Outlook 2013 and 2016 Preview, respectively. On Windows 7, Outlook 2013 was the first program I was opening a bit after Windows start up, and I was keeping it open almost the entire day, occupying my second monitor or minimized, to check my e-mails.

Now, I just tap the WinKey on my keyboard and at a glance I realize if I have new mail or not. Pressing the Esc key hides my Taskbar again. I really like it! :)

    Hi,
With based on usage it will initially check and retrieve emails as they arrive, however if you check your emails rarely (eg once per day), then it will stop receiving as they arrive and do them at set intervals, once you check them more often it will go back to receiving them straight away.
this is mainly useful if you are on a battery powered machine as it saves power if you don't look at the often
the change you made just forces it to always retrieve them as soon as they are available

outlook, windowslive, Hotmail are all basically the same thing, its just depends when you set the account up, MS has gone through a few name changes for their mail service, the latest being the outlook one

the only difference could be that one of them is tied to your windows log in, if this is so then some items cannot be changed on it

what you mention is a plus for me also, I use outlook 2013, but I don't always keep it open, so miss emails with it at times, with the new mail app it does it in the background, so no need to keep the app open

Okay, thank you for your reply and all the info you provide :)

I like the Mail app and I will continue using it but I hope it will get fixed because... the bug of the live tile not updating, as I describe on my first post, still persists. Some times it works, other times it does not. For example, for your last post I got a notification from this site. When I tapped the WinKey and viewed the Mail app's tile, there was nothing showing there, no new mail. Neither I got any notification in the Action Center, even though I have set it to notify me. As soon as I opened the Mail app though, the notification was there so I read your post.

Really nice app, hope they will fix the bug, I have already reported it.

    Thank you.
