Yahoo and Gmail showing empty "sent" box when I have 100s on ipad

Firstly I should say I'm not very computer literate.

I have a Yahoo account and a Gmail account. I need to clear out my Sent items as my ipad memory is nearly full, To be honest, I've been rather lax at "housekeeping" so there are hundreds!

I decided it would be easier to go through them on the laptop (I will want to keep some so can't just do delete all) but when I go to the sent box in both mail accounts they are showing as empty.

I'm sure there's a simple answer (at least I hope so)

    Thanks for any help

The simple answer is that the sent mail may be only stored locally on your iPad, I'm afraid.

I don't use an iPad but according to Apple Support it depends on what your Mailbox Preferences are set to. Maybe you haven't got this setting selected....

Store sent messages on the server Sent messages stored on the mail server are available when you use your account on other computers.
