    Windows Live Mail not responding

    I have Windows 10 Professional and use Windows Live Mail 2011 for emails. Since the last Windows 10 update I am continually unable to connect to WLM - I just get a message telling me the programme is not responding. I tried an online chat with a support technician today but she was no help at all and then shut down the chat before doing anything other than tell me I might have to pay for premium support.

    i have tried the Windows Live Essentials repair but that did nothing.

    Have you considered reinstalling to the 2012 (Newest) version? If you can't open it and can't repair it, I'm not sure what you an do to repair it. If you want to go that route, I may be able to give you some tips to make it easy as possible.

    Sounds good to me and likely to be my only option. Would appreciate your advice on how to go about this and where I can download the update from please.

    Windows Essentials can be downloaded at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ows-essentials

    It will not allow you to download it with your current version installed. If you will make sure WLM is closed (probably no problem in your case :) ) Make sure to set your explorer to show hidden files and copy the folder at C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and paste it somewhere easy to find. Uninstall WLM and download the new version and install it. You will have to open the new version to get it to create the WLM folder you just copied. Once it does, close WLM, delete the Folder at C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and copy/paste the folder you copied earlier there. In other words, just replace your old folder with the new one. It will install all of your accounts, folders, emails you had before. The only thing you will have to do is put in your password. That procedure has worked for me several times.

    Hi Essenbe,

    I followed your very clear instructions and now have WLM 2012 on my computer. The programme is running and fetching mail - the only thing I cannot get it to do is when I receive an email with a link in it, the link will not open at all. Any advice on that problem greatly appreciated and thanks so much for your help with WLM 2012.

    Great, I'm glad that worked for you. I'm not sure why the links won't work though. Maybe you need to set your default apps again. See if this will help you, set WLM as your default email app and your browser choice as the default browser. See if that helps any. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

    @Majesty, after you set the above default programs, if it still doesn't work, try this:

    Reset the browser

    Depending on your Internet browser, you might additionally need to reset the browser. For Internet Explorer, this can be done in Control Panel-> Internet Options. When you use Internet Explorer 6 or lower, you’ll find this option on the Programs tab. For Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9 or 10, you can find this option on the Advanced tab.
    For Firefox, open a Run command and type the following (note the spaces);
    firefox -safe-mode firefox-safe-mode
    In the dialog that pops-up select the option “Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults” and press “Make Changes and Restart”.
