MS Edge takes forever to come up...

    Hello,

Whenever I launch MS Edge, it takes about a minute to bring up the home screen (default). Also, when I click to create a new tab, it takes as long for a new tab to come up where I can type in a new web address. I've searched the web about this problem & have tried every suggested fix. The obvious clearing the cache, cookies, history, etc. Creating a new folder for the temp internet files, but nothing seems to fix it. Sometimes it will seem to fix it for a little while, but the problem comes back. IE doesn't have these problems & websites come up very quickly. It seems to be a common issue from what I've read, which surprises me that there hasn't been a fix for this since the OS was released almost a year ago. Does anyone know what causes this & have any other suggestions?

I haven't got a fix but does this minute long delay (or longer) also manifest itself in Cortana and The Windows Store? Does it start working normally after a while? We had these sorts of issues on our laptop (whilst our desktop was fine). It seemed to happen every 24 hours too. I wonder if you are afflicted by the same (it basically affected any app that linked with the MS account so apps like film tv and photos also took an age to login). Say you change your opening edge page away from that default ms news feed to something like Google and also the opening a new tab to default to a different 'non ms' page - does that speed things up?

Unfortunately for us nothing fixed it. We ended up ditching the laptop it was so frustrating and getting our first Mac (this is what windows 10 can drive a sane person to!!!). I suspect you might need to try a repair install to see if that helps.

I tried changing the website that it opens up & it came up right away. But that was just once. When I tried it again, it took a LONG time to come up. MS Store and other apps pull up just fine for me. It's only Edge that goes insanely slow. I know this is supposed to be Microsoft's great new browser that's faster and better than all the others, but to be honest, I couldn't find a worse browser right now. Old IE & chrome work much better in my opinion. Some websites come up pretty fast in Edge, but it's not worth the aggravation the slowdowns cause

Ok. Different issue to ours then. I agree with you on edge, it's pretty lousy. It's behaviour is far too unpredictable. For the most part it works ok but tonight for no reason all the icons on my favourites bar in edge go generic. That MS start / newsfeed page comes up blank apart from my pic on top right. Clearing history / cookies etc doesn't work (in fact it reports some data couldn't be deleted). But I then logout and log back in and now edge is fine, everything is back and normal. But it's horrible behaviour. So I rely on Mozilla FF as default browser and also use IE11.

i would say to you ignore edge and use the other browsers. BUT if your anything like me the fact you know it doesn't work as intended will niggle in the background.

you could try re registering edge and failing that a repair install to see if it improves. Or could try creating a new dummy user account - it'd be interesting if edge works well on a new user. I'd recommend taking a system image and creating a restore point before undertaking any of these though

Thanks for the advice. I might try some of those suggestions in the future. Right now I don't have the patience to try. Gonna stick with IE11 & tinker with Edge off and on. I already setup a disk image so the backup is good to go. I'm a pretty advanced computer user, so like you said, it bugs me when something isn't working right & I can't get it fixed. Thanks for your help :)

    Good plan.
Unless you have nothing better to do, life is too short to waste time on something that does not work for you.

Yeap, I got the update and it does seem to be working better. Not perfect, but better than it was. There's still been a couple times where it takes forever to come up, but it's not as often
