Windows 10 Mail and Junk Mail

I hope someone can help me with this cos it's driving me nuts! after getting several emails from Microsoft to start using the Windows 10 Mail that came with W10, I finally got it set up. I do like it, but it's a little frustrating to use compared to my old Live Mail app.

I noticed this week I'm getting quite a high amount of junk mail, and mostly to my private email address that I only ever give to family & friends, so I'm more than a little annoyed about this. It has to be coming from Microsoft some way or another. I discovered tonight that it seems to be impossible to block the senders domain or mark these emails as junk? I've searched Microsoft help,, no help at all. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

A right click on any email should offer the option to Move to Junk.

The setting for blocking certain domains is usually found within the settings of the mail program, for example if you had a Gmail account you would access the Gmail settings via the internet Gmail account (mail.google.com) and go into settings where you can adjust the filters and blocked domains.

    Hi philc43
    Many thanks for your reply
. At first I thought I was going crazy, it looked so simple! But errrr, nope,, not for me,, here's my screenshot of my right click,, no such option!

I think this may be why I am finding it so confusing to use, I think I have more options than this missing. There are a couple of other things I've tried to do and not been able to although can't think what they are right now. But one other thing I have definitely noticed is that when I want to keep an important email for a day or two, I have left it in the Inbox, which is where it should stay, right?

Not mine, they just disappear, and I have to go hunting for them. Usually in the deleted items for that email address.

Very strange! What type of email account do you have? Is it a standard one like Hotmail or Gmail? Do you access it in some other way such as on your phone? If it is an IMAP email account it is effectively a live view of the email account and will show changes made by any other route that you use to access that account.

    Hi philc43
    thanks again for your reply.
I have about 7 email accounts set up, 5 of my own and 2 for my parents, but they are all standard bt pop3 accounts. Obviously I have my live mail account but I never actually use that, only for logging in to windows store etc

I do access my emails on my phone and also on my kindle, but this has happened even when I have just been on the laptop all evening. If I go check one of my other devices, they are gonne from there too.
I'm a fairly experienced user, and yes, I have to admit this has me floored too. I'm wondering if somehow my installation is corrupted, which is why I dont have all the functions in the context menu,, but I'm not sure how I would fix that? The help section in windows mail is pretty dire,, just takes you to a page which tells you how to set accounts up. Not very good at all.

It might be a corrupted mail installation and perhaps it has not been updated. For comparison my W10 Mail is Version 17.6868.40731.0.

This can be found in the Settings -> About.

From the very beginning I would be a little concerned because I don't think that Microsoft will send you any emails to your private email account to tell you to use the Windows 10 email app. That part just seems very odd.

I have never used the built in email app and I have been using Windows 10 for well over a year. I have never received any emails from Microsoft about anything.

Hi Rocky, yes I did think it was strange and I have to admit I ignored them for a good 2 or 3 months before I took any action on them. But I did verify the authenticity of them, and also if you go to settings in the mail app and click feedback, you will see that there are many many people who have recieved these emails. You will also see that not one single person who has left feedback has anything nice to say about the mail app. And there are hundreds of pages!

The Move to Junk option was added several updates ago so I am really confused as to why you do not have it. I am not aware of a reason why it might not be added unless your BT mail system does not include a Junk folder. Can you add a folder called Junk in one of your BT accounts and see if this then allows the right click option appear?
