This is how I set www.google.ca as my home page.
I am not sure if this will apply to you for setting Yahoo as your home page.

Open IE 11 > Tools > Internet options > General tab at the top > at Home page heading, erase whatever is in the box and type www.google.ca > OK when done.

Your instructions appear to be correct. I went into that setting and redid my home page with the address from Edge. That seemed to work. Still wonder why I got two completely different addresses on the two browsers.

I kind of limit myself to one browser and that is Internet Explorer.
I had experimented in other browsers only because I needed to have some understanding of other browsers if I wanted to answer questions related to those browsers.

I have no answer to your last question, namely "wonder why I got two completely different addresses on the two browsers."

If you have more questions, please fire away.
If not, please mark your thread as Solved.
    Thank you.

It stopped working again on IE. I haven't tried it on Edge yet. apparently the change I made was only temporary. I can't click on the wheel thing at the top, all I get is a quivering Tools entry. I'll try edge again after my nap. I work nights and need some more sleep.

Now the setting is back. I wish the settings on this computer would stay in place. I'll close this thread now.
