    email going to wrong account

My OS is Windows 10. I have been using MS Office Outlook for my email. I've used it for years. A few weeks ago I decided to try gmail so I set up an account. I did not give anyone my gmail address but for some reason I started to get a lot of my email from friends who have my Outlook address. I even got some of the junk mail on gmail. I then shut down my gmail account as I don't like it. Then I noticed that I wasn't getting much email. So I opened my gmail account and there were dozens of email messages there. Here's my problem. I want to close my gmail account but then I'll miss all of the messages that will go there. My question is. How can I stop messages from going to the gmail? Would appreciate some feedback on this. Thank you.

Oh s*** my reply was posted in a totally wrong thread! Too many tabs open.

My apologies, post binned. It was meant to be, and now moved here: Question about Cortana: Weather and Location Reporting - Windows 10 Forums

Sorry geeks, my bad. Thanks @nigelmercier for pointing out my stupid mistake.

    Hi Frank1,

I was unclear if you're using Outlook as your email client or using Outlook.com as your email account , or perhaps both?

Anyhow, I was wondering if perhaps your Outlook.com (if applicable) account is forwarding your emails to the gmail account, then deleting them from the Outlook.com servers? If you open your Outlook.com account and click the settings icon (gear wheel), you can check it that way.

I'm using MS Office Outlook. I checked to see if that was happening and it's not. It sure is a mystery why it's doing this because I have not given the gmail address to anyone. I do appreciate you input--thank you

That's what's so intriguing about this. It's got to be something simple that's just being missed.

Where you sending emails using the Gmail account to these people? I mean could have they assumed that your changed your email address if they received an email from Gmail, and changed things on their end? Moreover, you might email one of them and inquire which email address they sent their email to, and if it was to your gmail account, ask how they knew about that account.

I don't know if this would help at all, but you can set gmail to forward emails to your Outlook account too. I know you want to shut down gmail, but are concerned that you might miss some emails. At least this way you should not have to check both accounts.

No one has ever sent me anything using gmail. As a matter of fact (and this is really strange) the last message I got concerning my question went to my gmail and this one from you came to my Outlook mail. But that idea you gave me about having gmail forward messages to my Outlook mail is a good idea. I'll get it set up. Thank you.
