Security Updates for IE 10 and Earlier to End in January

The article is here: Who's still using Internet Explorer? And why won't they upgrade? | ZDNet

My son-in-law has a Vista machine. Am I correct in thinking Vista cannot upgrade to IE 11?

If so, I guess I'm going to need to upgrade his system when we go there for Christmas.

Yeah, Internet Explorer 9 was the last version available for Vista.

Support is 5 years mainstream and 5 years extended. Mainstream support for Vista ended in 2012, however Windows Vista SP2 with Internet Explorer 9 will be on extended support until 11 April 2017, meaning it will still get security fixes until then. But that's only a year and 4 months away anyway.
