    Syd,
Would you let us know how it goes? I am assuming you are referring to the Windows Mail that originally came with Vista and that (as I mentioned in another message just now) has been used by some in Windows 7, 8 and I believe someone said they got it installed and working in 10 but I am not positive about that.

I tried to reinstall Win mail, however this was unsuccessful, so I am going to to a clean install of Windows, download the update via the Windows Insider Prog, then I will try and reinstall Win Mail.

Johannes, that would be Windows Live Mail, as I recall.

Maybe it is called with both designations WLM and Windows Essentials 2012? see part of my program list.

Outlook has been the saving grace for MS Office for me. LibreOffice has 99% replaced Office on my home computers without any regret. Now I'm moving towards completely ridding myself of Outlook, using the Win10 Mail app or simply Webmail. I don't plan on installing Outlook/MS Office on any future clean installs on my home computers.

    Johannes,
Yes, you are exactly right. Windows Essentials contained several programs and one of them was Windows Live Mail.

    Rgauchy,
Are you using Windows Mail (Vista) with Windows 10? And have you done the update on 10 and Windows Mail (Vista) is still working?

I use Windows Mail (Vista). Copied it from a 64 bit machine of mine that's old. You have to delete the existing Windows Mail in program files before copying this over. Works just fine.

I use Thunderbird by Mozilla. I like it because it is pretty reliable, and can store all my emails via pop3 in folders I choose and has the add-on and now built in Calendar. I also use the FireFox browser which is also made by Mozilla. I like that because I can make it how I want it to be and because it loads pages overall quickly and doesn't hang. I do get some duplicate email sometimes with Thunderbird which I don't like. I rectified this by using a command in the Thunderbird system to auto-delete or move to trash when a duplicate is perceived. Seems to mostly work.

I've read a few people say that it is not Thunderbird causing the duplicate issue but that Microsofts servers (my emails are all microsoft ..live.com or outlook.com) are rubbish. I don't know.

I really don't like Windows Mail in Win 10. The email notifications are not consistent. I also in general am not a big fan of win 10 and prefer win 8.1. I've decided to deal with win 10 and hope it improves.

In the past I used Windows live mail until they seemed to ignore a weird "send" email problem where you would get all these error messages about sent emails. I also did not like their new modern ribbon style menu system. So I switched to TB.

I also used to use Internet explorer but changes to the browser (no separate search field, hangy behaviour) made me convert over to FF. Now I use FF and have IE 11 as backup. Can't stand Edge. And use TB for email.
