Fixing Graphic/Video-Induced Mouse Lag in Chrome/Edge

In Chrome and Edge, when playing videos (like on YouTube), the screen occasionally goes blank for a second and the color temperature shifts slightly. That does not bother me much, but the mouse becomes laggy after that. Closing and opening the browser solves problem (the mouse lag is gone)

    Troubleshooting:

Disabled hardware acceleration (fixes the issue, but undesirable)

    Firefox works without this problem.

Windows 11 system with 64GB RAM and RTX 3050 graphics card.

Updated graphics drivers (did not fix the issue).

    Other troubleshooting attempts were unsuccessful.

I really don't want to disable hardware acceleration. Any other solutions?

    It's Dell 8960 i9-14900 64 GB RAM Windows 1123H2 pro GTX 3050
    OS build 22631.3296

@Kabidubu Hello and welcome to Ten Forums.

There are two places where you can enable/disable hardware acceleration.
One is in Windows settings, and the other is in most browsers.

Sometimes you have to play around with those. There's 4 possible states.

Win = ON, Browser = OFF
Win = OFF, Broswer = ON
    Both OFF
    Both ON

Nine times out of ten, you'll find a combo that works for you.

It's buried somewhere in Settings > System > Display... etc.
I'm not ON Windows 10 at the moment, so I can't locate it.

On Windows 11, it's in Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Change default graphics settings.

An update on the persistent mouse lag issue I've been experiencing:

    (1) The lag occurs even when hardware acceleration is disabled in the browser, which leads me to believe the problem may not be browser-related.

    (2) The most frustrating aspect is the noticeable lag in mouse movement when the issue occurs.

    (3) I can rectify the situation by using the Ctrl+Win+Shift+B shortcut, which resets the display drivers. This is not a permanent solution, as the problem can reappears.

    (4) The occurrence seems to be random, but video or animation seem to tigger it -- since I am on the browser most of the time I assumed it's browser related but it happened even in Firefox (not juts Chrome and Edge) and even when hardware acceleration was off in the browser.

    (5) Attempting to disable the IGPU (integrated GPU on the Intel motherboard) yielded no success in resolving the issue.

    (6) Even switching to a different Nvidia graphics card (RTX 4060) did not provide a solution either.

Attached is a screenshot from LatencyMon taken while the mouse was lagging.

It's in Edge as detailed in an earlier post. In Windows 10 not all systems have a seperate setting.

    See:
How to Turn off or Disable Hardware Acceleration in Windows 11/10

I don't have the setting available on my machine.
