Version 21H1 Program Not Responding in Safe Mode Internet

I'm running Win10 Home Edition Version 21H1, and when I boot into Safe Mode with Internet Connection, Edge pops up, and when I try to close it out or manually end task, I keep getting Program not responding. I've left safe mode running for up to 7 minutes, but no matter how long I wait for, whatever needs to run, I'm unable to do anything in the Internet mode.

When I boot into Safe Mode Network I keep getting a message that "The application is not responding." See Image. If I hit End or Cancel, I just keep getting the same message that the application isn't responding. If I try to work through it, what ever program I try to run will just hang. Safe Mode Minimal works just fine. It's Safe Mode Network that doesn't want to work properly.

Hi, first, FWIW, with 21H2 safe mode with networking works for me, just to reassure you.

Second, if you use e.g. WinSpy (free) you may get information about the process that message relates to:
    WinSpy download | SourceForge.net
    or
    Download WinSpy++ 1.7

You might be able to spot it using the task manager.

In your first post you say this is Edge - have you ever modified or attempted to remove Edge?

If you create a new account for test purposes, and use that, do you see the same thing?

What I was asking was - is there a paricular reason you are trying to boot into Safe Mode
If that is to attempt to solve a problem - whicxh is the usual reason for booting into Safe Mode - then the problem MAYBE related to the Edge issue you now have in SafeMode with networking

Each Friday I do a system clean up and I prefer to do it in Safe Mode Network, because CCleaner and other programs require internet access. I realize it isn't necessary to be in Safe Mode to accomplish this, but it's kind of something I've been doing for years.

CCleaner as a regular maintence tool on windows 10 is neither needed nor wanted
I do not know what other programs you are using for this system cleanup but please be assured that the windows provided tools handle the system cleanup - maintenance - effectively and safely, not something that can be said for many third party apps.

    Re this
but it's kind of something I've been doing for years.
it was necessary on 7, perhaps occasionally desirable on 8.1, but is I can assure you not needed on 10

Indeed you may find that without your system cleanup using CCleaner and these other tools, you may not have this problem

Can you clarify what you mean by this
'm running Win10 Home Edition Version 21H1, and when I boot into Safe Mode with Internet Connection, Edge pops up, and when I try to close it out or manually end task, I keep getting Program not responding.

as I am unsure from your screenshot that it is EDGE to which the message refers
Perhaps my colleagues suggestion of task manager to see what process is running may assist

I've never had to use Ccleaner in safe mode nor with internet access.

Please explain what has happened that you find it necessary to use with each safe mode, and internet access.

Indicate whether you found the problematic application using winspy that dalchina had posted.

I'm not entirely clear as to how to make my point any clearer. You guys seem to be more interested in the fact that I'm trying to access what you guys feel is unnecessary. When I boot into Safe Mode with Network checked, Edge will automatically load to render some sort of assistance. No, I can't be sure that Edge is the culprit when I get the "application is not responding." I don't know what program is not responding.

CCleaner and ADWCleaner, require internet access, thus I boot into Safe Mode Network. Is it necessary? Probably not, but the point is that Safe Mode Network should work as I've used it for years. I'm using a brand new rig too (got it in June). Back in the day it always seemed better to do clean-ups in Safe Mode (as well as browser clean-ups). So, I just do it out of habit. What I'm unclear about is why while using Safe Mode Network, I'm getting "application is not responding."
