    Chrome starts slowly

    Hello,

Recently my Google Chrome browser has begun taking a few seconds to start up. I believe the problem started with a recent Windows Update. I think it was the following update, but I am not sure: KB5003173.

Before the update Chrome took maybe 2 seconds to start the first time (after starting the computer), and then maybe half a second to start after that.

After the update it takes about 5 seconds to start chrome, and closing chrome and restarting it doesn't make it faster.

I googled for "chrome starts slow windows 10" and found this:
Fix: Chrome Takes Forever to Load on Windows 10 - Appuals.com
I tried everything on the list but to no avail.

    EDIT:
I have tried the following (see link above for details):
    • Solution 1: Disable Extensions
    • Solution 2: Turn Off Hardware Acceleration
    • Solution 3: Rename the Default Folder
    • Solution 4: Reset Network Adapter
    • Solution 5: Log-in to Google
    • Solution 6: Clear Browsing Data
    • Solution 7: Run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter
    • Solution 8: Use Chrome Cleanup Tool
    • Solution 9: Reset Google Chrome
    • Solution 10: Reinstall Google Chrome

I started Taskmanager and checked the Performance tab while starting Chrome - I notice that my Disk goes up to 100% while Chrome is starting up. I am guessing that has something to do with the problem..

Anyone know how to fix my slow startup?
    Thanks in advance. =)

Other browsers work fine ? Any Chrome extensions that may be the culprit ? May disable to check.

    And can always reset/reinstall Chrome.

    Hello @Phrosen,

I would start by Disabling ANY Extensions or Add-Ons that you might have and work backwords, Enabling them one at a time until you find the culprit [ if there is one ].

Have you also tried Deleting your Temporary Internet Files? . . .

    I hope this helps.

I wish my browser only took a few seconds. Chrome takes about 15-20 seconds, and Firefox takes about 30-45 seconds to start.

I updated the original post with more details of what I've already tried.

I have also tried to delete temporary internet files, without any improvement.

When I open Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer it's as fast as Chrome used to be (about 0.5 - 1 sec to open).

Check Event Viewer and Windows Relaibility Monitor for possible errors including high disk usage.

You may want to experiment by downloading Chrome Canary (runs alongside regular Chrome) to see if any difference.

But as BobbyPhoenix states in post #5, 5 second delay is not that bad.

How do I start, and use, Event Viewer and Windows Relaibility Monitor? (I don't know what either of those things are. And my Windows is in Swedish, so they are probably named something else - which might make it hard for me to find.)

I also don't know what Chrome Canary is, or what it does. :P

    Did you try Post #4?

Download, unzip then right click and run as administrator (choose option from context menu). Run it when Chrome isn't running.

    Before that:

    1. Click the three-dot icon on Google Chrome.
    2. Then click Settings.
    3. In the pop-up window, click Advanced to continue.
    4. Then toggle off the option Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

    Exit Chrome.

Hey, sorry. I missed your first post.

I have tried it now, and sadly it didn't solved my 100% disk usage problem when starting Chrome.
