    Major problem with my Aliases

I have three Aliases. The first time I used one of them, I was horrified to discover it showed my real name as well. The email arrived showing the sender as "My real name <alias name@outlook.com>". So if my real name is Joe Bloggs and the alias I used is JoeBlow 12345 , the sender was shown as Joe Bloggs <JoeBlow12345@outlook.com.

The whole purpose of an alias is to hide your real name so what am I doing wrong?

Send Private Message is exactly what it says, Private.

    I hope this helps!

I'm in a very difficult position. The first person who suggested that I look at Aliases was an expert in the Microsoft Community in a thread there. So that's why I asked the question there:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-b1ca45f6d13f

An MVP has been helping me but being completely honest I have to say that I've lost the plot. It's clear that I haven't explained myself adequately in my four replies and as a result I've no idea how I can say to an MVP that I can't get my head around his latest comment
"Forget what you know about aliases. When you are using an @Outlook.com alias, it is only an additional address.
Your account only has one name. It does not matter how many addresses the account has".

To my simple mind, the whole purpose of using an alias is that the recipient doesn't know that the email is from me yet the first time I sent an email using an alias the recipient saw that the email was from me.
It said "From Real name <aliasnameAToutlook.com>".

Let's say that my real name is David.Jones and I used the Alias "Joe Bloggs".
The email said "From David.Jones <Joe BloggsAToutlook.com". So it showed my real name.

I hope that I've explained myself adequately. I'm now in the very difficult position of wondering what more I can say to an MVP there. I'd really appreciate your guidance. Regards to you both

    Taffy,

The email address you send the email from will always show.

You can change the display name of your Microsoft account if wanted though.

This is what I can't get my head around, Brink. When I click on 'new message', it shows me the option of using my real name or my Alias. What's the point of having an Alias if it shows my real name?

Your option of changing the display name of my Microsoft account is interesting. I'm Taffy087 but wouldn't that change my Microsoft name on everything?

Could I create a new account with an Alias? I'd ask my wife to set it up so that it would be her IP address, not mine - I think Microsoft checks IP addresses on new accounts. What do you think?

Your Microsoft account name and aliases are separate items.

Aliases are basically just other email address associated with your Microsoft account.
