    Unable to Change Chrome Background

After doing a clean install of Windows 10 for a friend I began to get everything back to where it was for him. He had Chrome as his default browser with his home page being the New Tab page, with this NASA space background. When he called for an update I told him that his Chrome bookmarks had been imported and that his browser was back the way it used to be.

He said 'Gee, I hope I don't still have that stupid outer space picture on the Chrome home page.' Of course he does since when I installed Chrome I picked that custom background.

I can find no method to get back to the basic default Google view. Many pages tell me to open Chrome, go into Settings, Appearance and select some sort of default setting. I don't have that option on his laptop and I don't have it on mine either. Anybody have a clue how to get the old white page with the word Google in red, yellow, blue and green without re-installing the browser?

Hi boweasel, Can you get it back if you go into Chrome's settings, Appearance, and type in the Google address.

Thanks for the reply Ethel, and setting the Home page to Google DOES work to give us the old Google page, but he wants the New Tab page, which displays not just the search box, but clickable icons for sites often visited. I tried changing it back to the new tab page and it immediately went back to the NASA photo.

Hi again, You can also look for the space image, and if it is listed delete it.

Hi, Something I had forgotten. Did you friend choose the background from customise at the bottom of the page, because if he did it is an easy fix.

Going to that path gives me nothing but a bunch of 40 letter folder names that signify nothing. Opening any of those gives me file names, but no indication of what they look like.

Those images look like desktop background wallpapers. And I was the one who gave him this NASA theme for Google Chrome when I installed the browser. I selected it because it matched what he used to have - before I did the clean install of W10.

Wait, Ethel.... Just for the heck of it I clicked on the little pencil in the lower right corner, and it brought up the screen you just showed me. Clicking on the No Background gave me what he wanted.
