How to stop "How Do You Want To Open This"

I have Win10Pro (upgraded in place from Win8.1Pro) and every time I click on a link in an email, I get the "How Do You Want To Open This" dialog box. I always click on Internet Explorer and I always check the box "Always use this app" but I still get this dialog popping up EVERY time I click on a link.

I'd love to stop this annoying behavior.

You could check to see what extensions you have set up as default programs such as aspx, htm, hmtl or etc. See what extensions you have in your email. Use set default by app type. If you see none, you can also set a default browser so it knows which to launch by set app defaults.

I have the same problem but using Chrome. It is really annoying. Every single email and i must select what app i want to view link or open browser. There must be a way to fix this issue.

Same problem for me, it's really annoying. I've checked Default Apps, they are all set correctly, if I change the default app to Microsoft Edge, it just opens, if it's Internet Explorer it prompts every time I click a link "How do you want to open this". I changed it in Set Associations and still get the same behaviour. Does this not happen for you ricorp?

    This must be a bug

I have been trying to solve this for days, with no success. I don't want to use Edge right now, and IE11 works OK. I can't seem to import my bookmarks into Edge and don't like the look and feel anyway. If anyone has the answer to this frustrating problem I will be very grateful. I know I have set up all the right defaults, but it makes no difference. I could use Chrome, which seems to work when you switch defaults, but I play a lot of Battlefield 4 and that game says that Chrome is not going to be compatible in the near future. HELP...

I upgraded from 8.1 pro in place, so have the same problem.

RE:How to stop "How Do You Want To Open This"

This must be a bug, indeed! I tried all the suggested things, but this problem persists.

Does it only arise on those systems that were "upgraded in place?" Does anyone who did a clean install see this behavior?

Interesting that it doesn't come up if you set Edge as the default. Is MS doing a little "dirty work" here? I use RoboForm as my password manager, and it does not work in Edge, since Edge doesn't do add-ins. So IE11 is my browser of choice.

How does on report this to MS as a bug?

I do believe this is an "intentional" bug so the user must select a MS product. I use Chrome and have Chrome set with maximum defaults. But still get this pesky question with every email link. Must be some work around or bug fix out there. Anyone, anyone, McFly?

Most here are using a Microsoft product, Internet Explorer 11, Edge just isn't ready yet.
I also did an in place update.
