    Mail

    Hello all,

I apologize if this is out of place...I am a Win 7 user (used to use the Win7 forum all the time) but my wife uses Win 10 pro on a new touch screen laptop.

For some reason, on her laptop, Mozilla Thunderbird is not saving emails that have been downloaded or downloading all the emails that are stored on the server. This despite the fact that she is using the same account, via a shared wifi connection, with the self-same settings in both iterations of Thunderbird.

Would prefer to stay with TB but I can't find the problem.

As a result I am looking at alternatives.

My question: Is it possible to install Mail without installing Office 365 (or whatever it is)? So that it runs stand-alone.

    thanks...

Windows 10 built-in, native Mail app has absolutely no connection with Office 365. It is a stand-alone emal client, you can add any email account to it.

Thank you. I was looking for free email apps for Win 10 and Mail was recommended as among the "Best Five."

But the description indicated it was associated with Office. perhaps i just misunderstood. looking at it again, I can see how it could be read differently:

Probably, the best free email client, the Mail app comes pre-installed with Windows 10. It is the free alternative to Outlook that’s bundled with Microsoft Office.
Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll have to check it out.

The sentence you highlighted says alternative to Office Outlook, not that it is connected to or requires Office Outlook.

The Outlook application is not bundled with all versions of MS Office, like Home & Student.

Windows 10 comes as standard with the Mail App which you should find in the All programs list "Mail". It is also in the MS Store.

You can of course set that up with your Mail Accounts as a default fall back position whilst trying out other Mail clients. I have yet to find an alternative free one that is good.
Consequently have been using the Mail App for 4 years now.
