    Hi there
Another iteration also of "that well known universal law" -- Restores will fail when you really desperately need them " --that said though MF is the most reliable backup system I've had from any 3rd party source free or otherwise.

The other alternative that never fails is the Linux (and can also be used in Windows on the WSL) is the dd command - official name is disk duplicator but if you don't use it correctly it's also known as "Disk Destroyer"

One problem though it seems with reading through the Sales spiel for the new upcoming V8 release is that I can't see if when you create the stand alone media whether it can CREATE a disk clone. Doing it from Windows itself IMO isn't a good idea --

I think that cloning a disk should be done from an OS (whatever it is) running on a different HDD to the disk being cloned. Just "locking" partitions etc IMO isn't 100% sufficient for Disk integrity.

I'd even recommend when taking images from within Windows itself to at least not do anything until the job has finished.

Anybody got any info on the actual release date of V8 yet.

BTW current V7 won't image a Linux Disk with xfs partitions (ext2/3/4 OK though) -- clone won't work either if any partition is xfs. I can't say if that's new because I used to have my NAS servers using ext4 but xfs is so much more efficient and resilient I switched recently.

    Cheers

When will Macrium Reflect v8 be released? It's past the offer expiration date.

I don't think anyone here knows, or if they do they are not allowed to say.

When v7 was released, any v6 purchased within three months of the release qualified for a free upgrade. The free v8 upgrade offer for v7 was announced around 16 Dec 2020, so any time up to 16 March would be consistent with past behaviour.

I’ve placed my new macrium license numbers in macrium application on 4 computers, ready for the new version any day now. Until then am backing up as usual with ver 7.

I tweeted Macrium on the 7th Jan, here's the response...

All purchases of Reflect 7 on, or after, 15th November 2020 will receive a free upgrade to Reflect 8.
For licenses purchased before then, there will be a generous upgrade discount.
There will be an announcement with more details soon, but you can be among the first to find out more by signing up to the #Reflect8 newsletter here: https://macrium.com/reflect8

The v6 to v7 free upgrade was available to purchases within 90 days of v7's release. So that puts a likely v8 release date as no later than 15 Feb. 2021. Last time round the upgrade discount was 50%.

    Version 6 Home User
If you bought your v6 license on or after 26th November 2016, it is eligible for a free upgrade to v7.
All v6 Home Edition licenses bought before this date can purchase an upgrade with a 50% discount.
