    Do you have an older system image from something previous, including the original OS? If yes try like Bunny J said:
    did get WIn8.1(activated) to upgrade to 10240 and it remained activated on Thursday morning.. and I got the update on Friday and all other updates. So it seems that doing that will work.

Say you have WIn8.1 activated you can upgrade to 10240 and it will be activated. But now you can't install any build of WIn10 and activate it.. that's been turned off by MS.

    So the only option now is to go from an activated version.. Win7/Win8.1
    This is the route I would take.
