Yes, the Anniversary update included the new functionality. Windows Defender remains onboard so you can use it for scans [in much the same way that you might have Malwarebytes free installed for manual scanning].

If you want to see confirmation then read What's new in Windows Defender.

This new facility is also referred to as Limited periodic scanning and is discussed in

Windows Defender is not executing in the background. It is sitting there available to do scans if you tell it to - just like Malwarebytes Free.

Brink is correct about the ability to remove this entry from the context menu.

However, I disagree that Limited periodic scanning is useless. No antimalware application is perfect. Malware can be crafted to get past any of them. However, even such carefully crafted malware would be hard put to remain undetected by two different antimalware applications. That's why many people use Malwarebytes Free - to get a second opinion. The new Windows Defender Limited periodic scanning capability means that it can be that second opinion instead.

I partially agree whit you......... but i thinks if you use Windows Defender it's or "old" Microsoft Security Essential it's be equal to have nothing on your OS and at this point i thinks it's same result to be completely disabled and use a better AV instead.
Ah.. 2 scanner AV in a same OS... only CPU and RAM wasted for my opinion :)
