Lizzy, you have to change the boot order. Look at post #344
    Turn the lappy off completely.
Do not have anything else connected, just the flash drive.

Start the lappy and do what is in post #344 in the exact order.

To change the boot order the flash drive has to be an option in the "boot" tab. See no.7 in 344. The flash drive only appears in the "save and exit" tab.

I found this on the internet
    Access Denied

The screen shots are not the same as mine but point 3. Enter security disable "secure boot control" I that something I should try?

Also I have tried highlighting and enter the flash drive in the save and exit tab but it reboots in the normal way.

OK, I can get into UEFI. In the boot tab I don't have the option "disable fastboot" see my first post today with screen shots 324.
So have a look at my boot screen and tell me what to do please. Then I will follow the rest of the instructions.

It looks like you will need to disable Secure Boot.

This looks correct for Asus Access Denied

I managed to change the order using boot option priorities. But then when I ave and exit it still reboots as normal.
So the "disable Fastboot" step is the only one missing! What extra software do I need with Windows 10-20160714_174527_resized.jpg

I'm going to have to go now. if by some miracle I did get it to boot from Macrium, what then? Is it obvious how to close down? Will I then have to go back into the UEFI menu and reverse everything I did?
    Thanks again for your help!

Just close it with the X in the top right. You should not have to change back.

A question Lizzy....How old is this laptop? You're showing a BIOS dated 2010.

Do me a favor..... plug in your thumb drive (It will show up in My PC), click it to open it with Explorer , and post a screenshot of the contents.

    Success!!

I don't like being beaten by a dumb computer! I played around a bit and finally got it to work by disabling the UEFI boot on the boot tab. Then I had three options - the ssd, flash drive and UEFI flash drive. I chose UEFI flash drive and it worked
