Mbam free should check for malware definitions before it scans, when you press the scan button.

I think it checks for program updates too - but yes, you have to manually apply pgm updates.

I believe it will update upon start of scan, check for updates, apply.

Yep, you guys are right. It didn't used to, but it does now!

MBAM version 2.x (currently 2.2.1.1043) [and all future versions AFAIK] will automatically check for updates as part of its pre-scan operations for a manual scan in Free, Trial and Premium version.

And now I shall crawl back under my rock.:)

Lizzy, you're getting your updates automatically, good. Your Defender updates are current, good. MBAM will update it's definitions when you run it. Run the Defender Quick scan daily before any backup, same with MBAM. Look back a few posts where simrick suggested the Threat Scan on MBAM What extra software do I need with Windows 10 - Page 31 - Windows 10 Forums and follow those guidelines.

Don't add any more programs or delete any more programs right now. Let it all settle in. You've only been on Windows 10 for 2 weeks now and should explore the new OS for a while. Get used to it, and get comfortable with it. No wild moves..... Remember the Big Update Aug 2nd.

    Enjoy your work! TC
    Hi TC,
Hope you have a great Independence Day.
Just thought I'd let you know I've completed my homework!
I tried the Touro both plugged into the docking station and also into a hub a bought and both times it makes a strange noise, but works silently connected directly to my laptop. So I will only use it that way, don't want to take any chances with it!
Thanks again to you and others who have contributed! Thanks for your great advice, patience and the time you spent coaching me!
Let me know if that's us done and I'll tick the post as resolved.

Hi Lizzy! Sorry for delay, I was bouncing around. That's great you got all that done! See the backup did it's verification automatically. Touro silent on laptop, a bit noisy on hub and docking station - Hmmm.... you might want to open a thread in the Drivers and Hardware forum and for that. Be brief and stay on the Touro subject. Give the make and model of the hub you bought and same for the docking station, I don't think that's in you specs, might want to add.

Hope we resolved most of your problems! If you are ok with it and feel comfortable, go ahead and mark the thread as solved.

Been great working with you, really! Remember the Big update coming Aug 2nd.....

If you need anything else, feel free to contact. TC...

    Boot from USB Drive

    Hi TC,
    I think I did it!
The instructions you gave didn’t work so I found out I had to shut down using Shift+shut down, then press F2 and power button at same time. Got the BIOS screen.
    Selected “boot”
    Selected “Add new boot option”
    Selected “USB Flash Memory”
    Pressed F10
The system rebooted and I’m assuming it was from the USB drive……. Or maybe not!

Hi, Lizzy! Not sure what you have there. Did it boot to Macrium? It should have looked similar to the Macrium Backup screen.

    Hi TC,
Sorry but not following. It just rebooted as normal so obviously didn't get it right didn't know what was supposed to happen after I pressed F10 . From the instructions you sent no. 8 and 9 "Press F10 Your Zenbook should now boot from the USB drive".

Those were just general instructions on how to get to BIOS. Based on what I see, the only boot option listed is the hard drive (SSD). You may have to add an option for USB. Your first screen, where it says "Add Boot Option". I have no idea what options it will give you, but you're looking for USB or something that signifys the Thumb drive. You currently only have 1 option, the Sandisk SSD.

Then I went to "Add new boot option" (2nd screen)
Then I chose "USB Flash memory" (3rd screen) which is where I saved Rescue Media.
    It's very confusing for me!
From the 3 screens above, what options should I choose?

Lizzy, I am very hesitant to change things in your BIOS. I don't have your laptop and I've never worked with a bios setup like you have. Somebody who actually has one, or knows the exact procedure, should be doing this. I'd love to get you thru booting to a thumb drive, but I don't have the resources or knowledge to do it. And I won't risk breaking your machine with guesses. This should be moved to the Hardware thread where someone with Asus Netbook experience will see it.

I really feel bad I can't help with this. It's just too far out of my league. I can ask a Moderator or Administrator to move it to the Hardware and Drivers section if you would like me to. All your posts today would be moved and you would still own the thread. What do you think?

    Thanks TC,
Just one question, which seems silly but, what situation would require me to boot from the USB drive? Is it really important that I know how to do this?
