Antivirus (AV) stand alone removal tools

The nature of Anti-virus (AV) programs is to protect your system from unauthorized changes.
This often interferes with a clean uninstall of the program.
To resolve this, many AV vendors provide a stand alone removal tool for their product.

Read the links for your AV product, follow the detailed instructions on the product page and if provided, use the stand alone tool referenced on the page.

The best way to uninstall an AV product from your machine:

    1. Use Programs and Features to uninstall the base product
      1. Read any Processing notes below for the product you are trying to uninstall
      2. Restart your machine after removing the product from Programs and Features
      3. Check Action Center to make sure Windows Defender is running - start it if it is not

    2. Run the removal utility in Command Prompt (Admin) for the AV product you removed above
Read the instructions and ask any questions before running the utility.
Most are straight-forward, but some do have precautions.
      1. Restart your machine after running the stand alone removal tool
      2. Check Action Center to make sure Windows Defender is running - start it if it is not

    3. Launch Command Prompt (Admin)
Enter the following command in the Command Prompt window
      SFC /scannow

    Thanx Bill...

AV's "integrate" with the kernel and are thus tenacious to remove - good we have a list of specialized apps to uninstall them :)

I updated the McAfee links. This will be the case as vendors change their pages, utilities, or get acquired.

I'm not sure if the new links would have made any difference - maybe

If MCPR shows Incomplete uninstallation, restart the machine and run MCPR again.
I'm glad Revo came to the rescue once again!

Thanks for bring it to my attention.

    Great asset!

    Awesome!
Thanks very much for taking the time to assemble such a comprehensive list!

    {For some AVs, there are tweaks/tricks to uninstalling (above and beyond a normal uninstall and running the removal tool) that the vendors don't always include with their instructions. For example, as a McAfee survivor, I know that one sometimes needs to run their removal tool more than once, perhaps from Safe Mode, for complete eradication. And for Kaspersky, it's a good idea to disable self protection (from the GUI) and to exit realtime protection (from the system tray icon) before uninstalling; they also recommend using their removal tool only when a regular uninstall (as you describe) does not work properly. From the "live and learn" department....}

    Thanks again.

    Cheers,
    MM
