Can Windows Defender be turned on in Windows 10 Home?

Since Home doesn't have Group Policy (the standard way to turn on Windows Defender),
I tried the registry hack offered by Windows 10 Forums.

It didn't turn on Windows Defender either.

Can Windows Defender be turned on in Windows 10 Home?

If you have one of the following AV programs installed, Windows defender will be turned off automatically. Can't turn it on if one of those is installed.
    Avast
    AVG
    Norton
    McAfee.

P.S. I am out of date on this subject. It is possible one of the above programs will co-exist with Windows Defender now.

AVG will shut down Windows Defender because AVG has its own defender. Having 2 defenders running in the same machine will/might create conflicts and thus reduce degree of protection, not to mention redundancy.

    Thank you.

This is one of the nice features of Defender, when defender sees another AV it disables itself so you as the user don't suffer from conflict. The only think I recommend here is that if you are going to use another AV over defender make sure it is a paid AV.
