For @lx07 : Well, we gave it a try; at least we have eliminated that possibility. At this point, it looks like the bloggers at Windows Ten Forums have solved the majority of the problems that plagued my computer.

I still owe you a thank-you for suggesting that I post my problem to this "Anti-Virus" forum. Without the instructions from you guys, I would have been in deep trouble. So, thanks again for all your help.

Setting up Firefox for safer browsing

Click on the 3 horizontal bars near the top right-hand corner. A drop down box appears. Select Add-Ons (puzzle piece).
A new tab opens in FF (Firefox). On the left side select Plugins. On the right side will be a list of all plugins currently available in FF.

    Plugins Settings
    OpenH264 codec = Always Activate
Primetime Content Decryption = Always Activate
Scroll down to the bottom of the page:
Java Deployment Toolkit = Never Activate
All the rest should be set to Ask to Activate.

On the left, click Get Add-ons
In the search box, type LastPass

I have contracted a Virus that shows many Ads-ff02.png

    Click Install at the right.

Create a new user account. Use a very strong password - letters plus numbers plus special characters, make it at least 16-18 total characters, do not use words as they are found in the dictionary - for instance, replace some vowels in the word(s) with numbers. This is your main password for LastPass. It's the only one you'll have to remember, so make it strong. As you log into site, LastPass will ask you if you want to save the password. Later, when you go back to that site, LastPass will fill in the login credentials for you. This also has an advantage that, if you visit a phishing site which masquerades as something else, LastPass will know it, and warn you before you try to login.

    Don't lose your LastPass password!

Currently, Java and Adobe Flash are not installed in the FF browser. If you can manage without them, that is the best solution. If you find you must have them:

    Download Free Java Software
Note: be sure to uncheck the "optional offer" when installing

Adobe Flash Player Install for all versions
Note: Be sure to uncheck the "optional offer" in the middle of the page before you click Install Now.

If you do install Flash, then, open a new tab and go here:
Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Peer Assisted Networking Settings panel

check the box which says Disable P2P Uplink for all

EDIT: If you DO end up installing Java and/or Flash, go back into Add-ons and set them to ASK to Activate.

@Writer, Can you post a screenshot of your registry where the two keys are missing?

EDIT: I will do some research on the Defender issue, and also the DLL error. So, we can take a break for a while. :)

For @simrick : I'm filling out the form for my LastPass Password. There are several boxes that one can check. I'll list them: Which ones should I check off?

1/ I have read and agree with the terms of service and privacy statement.

2/ I understand that my encrypted data will be sent to LastPass.

3/ Keep a history of my logins and form fills.

4/ Send anonymous error reporting data to help improve LastPass.

    5/ Disable Firefox Password Manager.

Concerning doing a screen-shot of the Windows Defender items: I've never done screen-shots before. Can you give me some pointers?

Concerning the request you made in the notice. I did something, but I don't know if it was the one that you'd like. Some of the terms were different than the ones you gave me. Can you check on this to see if I did it correctly?

You can accept them all. #4 is your choice.

Search SNIP and click on the Snipping Tool. Actually, you might want to right-click that and select Pin to Task Bar, so it's handy whenever you need it. Click NEW, hold the mouse button down and drag to select the area of your screen, then save it in Pictures\Snippets

You can post a screenshot (snip) of your Firefox, and I'll have a look.

    For @simrick :

The attachment below is of the items to the right from Windows Defender in the Registry.

Concerning the third item in your post above: can you tell me where I can find the icon that you referred to in your notice.

Interesting. Can you expand the first column so I can see the names completely? I don't have the "ManageDefen..." in mine.

I think we will need to create the two registry entries you are missing, but first I need to see the full name of ManageDefen...

So, please expand the column, and post another snip? Thanks.

Back in Ccleaner (not to jump around, but...) in the Scheduled Tasks tab:

Yes Task Plugin Bus Microsoft Corporation C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe "C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Plugin Bus\xBin\PluginBus.dll",#3

Is this disabled? If not, please disable it, then reboot and see if the DLL error is gone.

    For @simrick :
When I mouse-over the items, they expand, but I was not able to expand them over time.

Here are the four items that need expansion:

    ManagedDefenderProductType

    OneTimeSqmDataSent

    ProductAppDataPath

    ProductLocalizedName

    Concerning the icon you mentioned:
I was able to install it to Firefox. It says "Middle-click to enable/disable. I have a wheel in the middle of my mouse that one scrolls with. How do I work around this?

Okay, thanks. If you hover your mouse over the very right end of the NAME column, the mouse will change to a vertical line with two arrows pointing in opposite directions. Hold down the mouse button and you can expand the NAME column.

I think we may attempt some registry editing tomorrow.

The icon will sit in the top of your FF window near the LastPass Icon. You can control it from there. I have a wheel in the middle of my mouse as well.
