It comes down to personal preference. For a free AV defender is just OK and there are others that are a bit better. But I could not justify buying an AV. defender with a version of malware-bytes is the way to go, IMO.

FWIW, my Norton 360 suite (bought and paid for) will definitely NOT work. Won't install due to compatibility issues.

When i installed Win10 (Bld. 10130) over Win8.1 on my Acer laptop, the Windows installer removed McAfee LiveSafe completely. I ran the cleanup tool from their site to remove registry entries that had not yet been removed (lots of them!)

I thought of trying to reinstall it to see if it would work - i can't remember if i'm running McAfee on my desktop or not??

Either way, i'd just use Windows Defender and wait till the 29th, do a fresh install of whatever build is the current one - probably by that time McAfee will have an updated version on their site you (and i) can download from our account files.

I like using avg anti virus. I tried to install it on 10; but it said its not compatible with this version of windows. The thing is though; since i thought for sure it would be compatible with windows 8; I thought maybe it would work with 10; but so far its been a no go on this one.

This is exactly the issue I am having with avg anti virus which is the one i like using. I tried to install it yesterday and the installer said it was not compatible with this version of windows; so I hope they come out with a fix for it when the final version of 10 rolls out at the end of the month.
