I have been using Panda Free and Malwarebytes Free. However after installing Panda Free my computer has slowed down quite a bit. Games now take a minute to even start loading. And website take about 5 to 10 seconds to load. Didn't have this problem before installing Panda 2016 Free. About ready to uninstall it and go back to just using the MS program with Malwarebytes Free.

The best free anti-virus for high detection, low performance impact, and ease-of-use is Avira. Only two negatives: a pop-up every few weeks asking if you want to upgrade + apparently only average detection of zero-day attacks.

I agree but I would strongly recommend the "Premium" version of Malwarebytes instead of the "free" version as the premium version scans in the background as a type of "real time" scanner...
Malwarebytes now also offers a fee 'anti-exploit' tool that works with any browser that is opened. It is heuristic so it is light weight and is designed for zero day exploits. I use that and malewarebyte scans, plus the occasional ADW, hitman pro scans.

I have also noticed a slight slowdown when I was testing Panda 2016 a few days ago. I have went back to WD and I have installed Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (It evens works with SeaMonkey).

I uninstalled Panda Free 2016 yesterday. Just using the default MS along with Malwarebytes Free. My computer is back to running fast again.

I agree with the common sense approach but #1 isn't always foolproof.
A few years back I clicked on a link on the CNN website main page (don't remember if it was an ad or article) at work and introduced onto my PC a very, very destructive and impossible to remove virus (and I was in tech support). Fortunately our work PC's were easily re-imaged (took 5 minutes). But a reliable source is not always a guarantee of safety.

    For my machine(s)...

    XP -Bit Defender and SuperAntiSpyware
Win7 - Windows Defender and MalwareBytes Free and SAS
Win10 - Windows Defender and MalwareBytes Free and SAS.
Totally agree with what they said.

I tried Avira, on both computers just install took 30 minutes and then the computer ran like hell.
Do not know, who did those test, but all other AVs install and run just fine within 2-3 minutes.

I use and have paid for McAfee Live Safe it runs in the background and the only time I notice it is when an update is being downloaded or installed and it has done a scan and found something.
I have Auglogics Anti Malware to back it up and both do a good job

I have used Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender for years with great results. They have kept my PC virus free. It also depends on your actions using your PC. Our internet provider offers Kaspersky 2016 for free, but I don't use that, slows my system down too much.

Here a couple of recent news stories about anti-virus companies that are very interesting. Google the story titles for links to the articles.
