I generally do the same except for the disconnecting from the internet. May I inquire as to the reason for this step? A quick look did not reveal how to set Norton 360 to scan on demand..... Is there a tutorial for this????
I do not want any program, especially N360 updating during the backup, but you don't have to. It's just an old school sort of thing. The filesystem is locked anyway with VSS.

Go into Settings in N360 - then -> Task Scheduling -> Manual Schedule.

Then you can do your scan(s) when you please.

Looks like we are starting to show an allegiance. Thanks
There are those of us with long, unforgiving memories, back to the pre-Norton brand horror days of Symantec. An abomination.

When it became Norton, it was acceptable (barely - nothing more) for a short time. But now has reverted to its former predatory and invasive state.

Used to using the Norton interface which has no settings per se. Found it in the N360. Thanks.

It is cumbersome and keeps trying to get me to buy more features. But it is paid for and there are things I am used to. Been thinking about not renewing when the time comes...... Don't know what solution I would be using if I do so.

That's the aggressive marketing style of Norton

That's the predatory component - just be aware that Norton sets the auto renewal as default during installation, without letting the user know. Before many unsuspecting realise, the next 12 month's subscription already off the credit card. You need to turn auto renewal OFF

    @glennc

Only use Image Guardian on the partition where you have your backups stored.
Then In Norton, exclude that same partition from scans and threat defense, or whatever...

For example... I keep ONLY my backups on my G:\ partition.

It works best if you only store backup (and nothing else) on that partition.
If necessary, you can use a free program like Minitool Partition Wizard, to make a partition, JUST for backups.

    FYI -

Image Guardian is for people who delete images without thinking.
You can simply turn it off if you so desire.

I think I may have gotten myself somehow into that trap. But clean up will be interesting. Have copies of backups on drives that are not there and will have to figure out how to get rid of them. I have tried using the Macrium removal stuff. Another priority soon.
