    Norton 360 and Macrium Confilct

Recently changed to the new Macrium to replace my previous backup solution. Some setting in it is blocking Norton 360 full system scans. As I haven't had issues with Norton and Backup software before is whatever option on Macrium necessary and how would it be disabled.

I don't know this for sure, but if I had to guess, I would guess that maybe there is an issue with "Image Guardian" in Macrium. That component tries to prevent any sort of tampering with your backups.

Open Reflect and select Other Tasks > Macrium Image Guardian Settings

Again, it's only a guess, so let me know if that turns out to be the issue or not.

I believe it is the Guardian as you've indicated. I would like other peoples views on the use of the Guardian Feature. I have to admit I have not learned much about the new Macrium so I am concerned over what seems to be an intrusion on my system. That is just an initial reaction and may be totally off base. So please comment if you care to on your view.
    Thanks

I use Macrium, and my backup images are written to a local drive dedicated for backups. I enable Image Guardian, and disable my antivirus (I use MalwareBytes) from scanning that drive.
So my antivirus does regular scan/protection on my C: O/S drive and my D: data drive. But does not touch my local E: backup drive. Also copy my backup images to a network server, and
to an offline USB drive on a weekly basis that normally lives in a fire safe. You can never have too many backup copies.

I'd be more concerned about Norton's intrusion into the system, rather than Macrium. I suspect Macrium is being the more protective than Norton, anyway.

That definitely sounds like a substantial and good plan. I am going to have to learn Macrium more. Currently using several separate disks for backup. thanks for the POV

    @glennc -

I am using exactly what you are and not experiencing any issues at all.
Actually, I have a couple of other systems with MR and Norton 360 on them that play very well together with Image Guardian turned on.

Exactly what happens when you do a N360 full system scan? Do you have an error? You can also turn off MR Image Guardian to test.

    Just a note:

When you perform a system backup, I would close all open applications and then disconnect from the internet until the MR image is complete and verified.
Obviously, you don't want a AV program to initiate a scan concurrently with the backup, since there is file locking in progress. Set N360 only to scan on demand.

Howdy and yes I am getting messages from Macrium IIRC saying it blocked Norton from scanning files. As I haven't done a Full Scan in a few, I don't recall exactly what the files were but I guess the backup files. There were several options in the Guardian settings and as I am consumed with getting my system back to running correctly I did not pay that much attention. Thus the question about priorities of programs. I believe Macrium plays well with Malwarebytes but it may not be scanning all the drives as the Norton does, as well as Defender.

    OK.

    Do this.

    - Set MBAM to on-demand only.
    - Set N360 to scan on demand only.

Also ensure that your system tray does not have active programs in use.

I do all my system scanning, updating, SSD trims and cleanup right before I initiate a complete full image backup with MR 8.1.

    Hope this helps.

I generally do the same except for the disconnecting from the internet. May I inquire as to the reason for this step? A quick look did not reveal how to set Norton 360 to scan on demand..... Is there a tutorial for this????
