Agreed! When trying to get bookmarks only allowed to be imported from IE which isn't even available until pinning the "iexplorer.exe" file to the Start and Task bar I had to first get them imported into the re-enabled IE 11 and then imported into Edge and found that even when stretched out across the second display here I couldn't move the shortcut icon around on the Favorites bar as far as seeing which ones would be left in view. No option to delete was found either.

Someone else complained to me just last weekend about having bought a brand new laptop with 10 coming on it and not able to get onto FaceBook at all which I did rather find puzzling but that is someone who won't be bothered in learning how to do things either! He would rather tinker with the smart phone then ask for help with anything.

Don't you hate that when someone will not take the time to learn something new but ask you instead. Don't they realize we have read all the possibilities and come up with a proposed solution.

The other thing that bothers me is when someone asks you to solve a problem then are too impatient to wait for a solution. You work away at a solution then they say it does not matter and forget it.

And don't ask them to read the instructions! You will get all kinds of negative replies . . .

Sorry, my rant for the day.

It wasn't any web browser not even Edge that got hacked here recently. Out of the blue one night I was suddenly getting calls in from a cell phone I knew wasn't in service from being turned off. I contacted the care facility to have someone check up anyways on someone and heard the phone was off. Later I got strange emails as well as text messages and found it was the Twitter account that got hacked. Somehow someone was able to see the unidentified calls made but showing a number on the contacts list until I blocked the cell number and closed up the account. You can't pin that on any browser or av program not doing it's job but the social network's lack of security when any account can be violated that easily. The purpose was to spam apparently while everything still got closed up.

    My solution

I have some malware that has hacked my Edge browser. It says my computer has been attacked by a virus and there is a verbal computer based warning about this attack. There is no way I can close it other than going to task manager. When I restart Edge it starts up on the same page. Is there some way of starting Edge without it going to this site? It seems my start page has been hacked. I have been using it and getting used to it but now have reverted back to Firefox until I get this fixed.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
Using Firefox, I must have surfed about 20 websites including this one with all their complicated mumbo jumbo "solutions", none of which worked. Then it hit me- Why don't I simply restore windows to a previous date before this problem happened? This I did, and Voila! Edge is back to normal. If my Mywot add-on was working on Edge like it is on my Firefox, the problem would have never happened in the first place. It would have warned me before going to the rogue site. The rogue site was vokaroo dot com. I had meant to punch in vocaroo dot com.

What will actually work in keeping you completely away from bogey sites to begin with is having web filtering processes watching over things! An Internet security suit often being the better version of an av software like VIPRE Internet Security 2015 or Norton Internet Security wlll check for malicious as well as any suspicious type of coding and usually block a site entirely! To get on some sites here found to be safe but with options for toolbar and making it your home page blah blah Bull shoy you have to shut the system protection down entirely when there isn't a separate option for the 3rd party firewall.

Oh it helps when first finding out about these types of options! When the Bing search engine was first new I ran into a beaut of a bug laden site! Had some fun cleaning off the 7 RC build at the time. Later on I was to hear about VIPRE and gave that program's 30 day trial a go and at this went with the life time license actually good until July 8 2026 so 10 is covered!

The easiest way to get around this is to disable your internet (pull the cable, disable the adapter, whatever). Then kill the browser and restart it, then close the tab.
Thank you. That did the trick.[/QUOTE]

I just had the same thing happen to me and was glad I found this discussion. Can you tell me how you think it happened to you? I was simply listening to MP3's (may have gone to a couple sites to get information about a song), but really can't determine how someone was able to change the home page in MS Edge. Any thoughts?

UPDATE: Just saw the other responses and have a better understanding of the issue. Couldn't figure out how to delete my posts.

    Another way...

    Navigate to the following directory:
C:Users<users>AppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.MicrosoftEdge_xxxxxxACMicrosoftEdgeUserDefaultRecoveryAc tive .The XXXX after Microsoft Edge is different for every user, a succession of numbers and/or symbols. Delete the last folder. STEP 4: Hold the Windows Key and R againbutthis time copy + paste the following and click OK: notepad %windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts A .txt file will open – don’t touch anything there. If you are hacked and someone has access to your PC, there will be a bunch of other IPs connected to you at the bottom. This is what a hosts file looks like: If there are a bunch of strange IPs connecting to you below “Localhost” you may be hacked, and it’s best to ask us in the comments for directions.
